I’ve been in the wedding and event world for over a decade now, and I have learned that the best way to market your services is to have a marketing strategy in place. Not to be a salesperson, but rather a marketer. This is because many times when I’ve approached a client asking how the wedding was, they’ve replied, “oh, I was so surprised and happy to find out it had all been done by someone else.
This is why I tell my clients, when you send out a press release, you can send the press release to dozens of places, and they still need to read it. Ive learned that no one is going to read your press release if they dont have to, and it will actually increase the chances of someone reading it. It is the same reason I recommend that people read the lastest press release from a client’s recent press conference, so that they can see the results in action.
The thing I like best about press releases is that they can be used to hook up with press contacts as well. This may not have been the case in the past, but I think it is an important skill that can only be learned over time. So as a general rule, if you are getting a press release, put it in the news section of your website, on your blog, or at your networking events.
What I like about this is that it’s a way of getting people in your network to find you. So if your client is getting press (or a press release) and it’s been done by someone you know, you can go to your website and send the link to your friends. It’s a way to get your brand in front of people, which is what a press release is all about.
