who exhibits a physiological need to eat is most likely experiencing the sensation of?

A physiological need to eat is most likely caused by a sensation of hunger.

Huge difference. Hungry is a sensation, the other word isn’t.

Sensation of hunger? That’s not correct either. The correct phrase is “hunger as a feeling” as

in “to experience hunger as a feeling” not “a sensation of hunger”. In this case, it should be “the sensation of being hungry”.

“As a feeling” doesn’t work for this conclusion.

A physiological need to eat is most likely caused by a sensation of hunger.

I have never heard the word “most likely” being used to indicate certainty, or even greater than 50% certainty.

It’s always used to indicate something other than 100% certainty, everything else being equal (in an absolute sense). Using it here doesn’t make any sense at all.

Why not?

In theory, when you say “the sensation of hunger” you could mean “when you feel hungry” or

“when you perceive yourself as being hungry”. Both of these are different than hunger as a feeling,

so I don’t think it’s correct to use the word “sensation” in this context.

There is no difference between the two, they are synonyms. I would object for that reason alone because it’s sloppy writing.

I also don’t think that the sensation of hunger necessarily needs to be caused by anything–

it’s just something you feel when you’re hungry, nothing more complicated than that. To say that

it is “most likely” caused by something implies there are other causes for feeling hungry besides being actually hungry, which isn’t true.

It is a medical term. It has a meaning that has something to do with how your body reacts, not “sensations”.

A physiological need to eat is most likely caused by a sensation of hunger. [ARTICLE END]

This article does not adequately convey what you mean.

I was all for this article before I read it, and I still think the idea is good.

However, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with describing hunger as a feeling in the abstract sense of the word “feeling”.

For your article to be completely accurate, I think it would need to be written as:

A physiological need to eat is most likely caused by hunger as a sensation.

For your article to be completely accurate, I think it would need to be written as:

A physiological need to eat is most likely caused by hunger as a sensation.  There’s just one problem:

Hunger as a sensation isn’t synonymous with hungry . They’re two different words that mean different things.

In theory, when I say “a sensation of hunger” I mean a sensation of hunger . Your objection is incorrect.

And you seem to be interpreting “the sensation of being hungry” to mean that people who aren’t actually hungry

can feel a sensation that they’re hungry. This is not actually the case. The phrase just means that a person who exhibits a physiological need to eat is most likely experiencing the sensation of

when you’ve haven’t eaten in a while, you feel a certain way, and this way is referred to as a sensation.

This is still incorrect and misleading language. It contains the term “likely” which has a different

definition than what you’re writing about.
