There is no getting around it. So if you are just a lowly grunt, why would you apply for entry level marketing jobs at all? Because there are too many companies out there that pay entry level marketing jobs with no real reason. It’s the job lottery. It’s all just a sham.
To be a good marketing manager today, you must have a lot of experience working in sales, marketing, customer service, and so on. You must also be good with the numbers, because you can’t tell by looking at your resume if you’re just another cog in a giant machine. You have to have skills that are specific to marketing. You must have a background in marketing so you can recognize when things are just working or not.
