Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Blogging but Were Afraid to Ask

For many people, blogging may simply be a hobby. For others it’s a business venture.

Regardless of your reason for starting, asking the right questions can help you set yourself up for success with your blog.

While there are some general guidelines to follow, these are some of the most important questions you should ask yourself before launching your own blog.

Despite the conversations around the various social medias, blogging has been around for years.

Blogging has evolved from being just an online diary to a way for people to connect and share information with others.

With the help of various social media sites, blogging has become more accessible and popular than ever before.

As a result, many people are interested in starting their own blog and don’t know where to start or what they should do.

Today we’re going to walk through some of the things you should consider before you even start thinking about creating your own blog. But first…

Why Blog?

Before we start looking at ways to create a successful blog, it’s important to think about why you want to start one in the first place.

Why do you want to write? What kind of information would you like to share with others?

You’ll find that each person has different reasons for blogging and involves varying aspects of their life and interests,

but ultimately the answer you choose should be something that’s important to you.

If blogging is just a means for you to share information and connect with others,

then there are other social media platforms out there like Facebook or Twitter which can help accomplish

this goal more easily. But if blogging is something that you’re passionate about,

then there’s no better place to share your thoughts and passions than within the world of the written word.

What It Takes to Start a Blog

Of course, starting a blog doesn’t mean that you’re instantly successful.

There are several steps involved in putting together for a successful blog, which we will detail below.

However, before we do that it’s important to make sure you have all the tools required in order to create the site effectively.

Setting Up Your Blog

Before you can begin writing any content, creating an effective blog requires setting up all the necessary tools

it takes to make posting on your site easy and efficient. There are three key elements that you need

to setup before you can begin writing: a website where your content will live, a domain name, and a blog platform.

Where Will Your Content Live?

The first consideration when moving forward with a blog is where you’ll be posting your content.

There are several different options for hosting your site, but you need to choose wisely as this decision

has many long term implications. In order to determine the best option for you, ask yourself the following questions:

Do I have my own domain or do I want to use someone else’s? Using your own domain is much more professional and

gives your site a higher level of credibility. It is also much easier to maintain and provides more security for your work.

Do I want to host my content on the cloud or do I want to host it locally? If you choose to go with an

“in-house” option, be sure that you know what your needs are before you make the decision.

It is often best to start investing in hosting early on if you want your site to be successful.

How Much Storage Do I Need? On most platforms, including WordPress, there are monthly

limits placed on how much storage space each blog storage can consume.

These limits can be made more or less strict depending on your needs. is blogging worth it

How Much Can I Afford? Most hosting plans are paid subscription plans. This means that you

need to know how much you want to spend on your site and determine what features are available for that price.

Where Do I Want My Content To Be Found? If you’re an established business or brand,

then you might want to consider using a custom domain name. But if you’re just starting out,

it might be best to choose shared hosting which offers more services for free than many other options.

Additionally, shared hosting plans are often much cheaper than custom domain names at the beginning because

you don’t have an established brand or business behind your name.

Do I Need the Ability to Edit the Site & Edit Content? If you’re an established business or brand, then

it can be easier to allow others to edit your site. This allows them to use the existing copy

that you have already written and allows for greater consistency in how your website is presented.
