If you’ve gotten inundated with posts of people trying to do stunts on TikTok, then you’re not alone.
The app, which is becoming more popular by the minute, has really taken off in recent weeks among teens and young adults.
The account “TikTok-erin1414” has over 500k followers and her videos are getting millions of views—one about flipping a water bottle got 1.5 million Instagram likes!
What exactly is TikTok?
And why are so many people tuning in to watch these videos? The app was initially released back in 2016 for Apple users but it wasn’t until recently that it became available for Android devices as well.
It’s a sort of mixture between Vine and Instagram—users can post 15-second videos from their phones, add digital filters and edit their clips with added music or sound effects, like Snapchat. But unlike Snapchat, the videos are not automatically deleted after a certain period of time.
That means that people can also go back and watch old clips on TikTok to see what all the hype has been about.
The app really seems to be blowing up this summer after celebrities like Will Smith posted videos on it.
Smith even shared one of his most popular ones on Twitter at the beginning of June, which has so far gotten more than 3 million views.
And it was definitely something that you couldn’t miss!
The videos aren’t the only way that people are getting creative with TikTok though: some people have taken to changing the app’s logo and icons, or prank-calling their friends in order to prank them out of getting a new app—and one star of the show is even taking his creativity to a whole new level.
However, whenever you’re bringing your brand-new iPhone or Android device back home from the store, make sure not to install TikTok!
