I think if you want to get your visitors to stop and talk to you, you first have to let them know that you are a part of the community. You can’t just have a business card. You don’t want to sell a product. You want to become a part of a community.
Marketing is a really hard thing to do. I would like to offer some advice on how you might do that, but I might be wrong and you might not want to hear it.
To get your website visitors to drop by your website for whatever reason, you need to know what your visitors want. And in marketing, you need to know what those people are like when you talk to them. You need to know what your visitors are like in person.
When you put yourself in the visitor’s shoes, you can really get a good idea of what they’ll like. If you know what they want, you can craft a message that will resonate with them. Think about it as a two-way conversation. You’re telling them what you think they want, and what they want you to do to fulfill it.
This is especially true if you know what they want. The best marketing material isnt a billboard, but a personal invitation to a meeting with a friend. This is not something you can just mail or fax. You have to get to know your visitors personally and get to know what they like in person.
To do this, you have to be willing to go the extra mile and do things that you yourself would probably never do. You have to be willing to go to the effort to go out of your way to meet other people. You have to be willing to show up on their doorstep and ask for an invitation. You have to be willing to offer them something they can’t get elsewhere.
In hospitality marketing, we see it as the act of doing things that you yourself would never do. In business, it’s the act of being someone who is willing to go above and beyond to make things happen. In hospitality marketing, it’s the act of showing up to someone’s home, office, or restaurant and offering them some thing that they might not normally find on their own.
For example, I can’t remember the last time I ever came over to someone’s house. I can’t remember the last time I came over to a restaurant or office. I can’t remember the last time I came over at someone’s house to offer them a discount on their next purchase.
It is the act of being willing to do extra, outside the norm, for someone. It can be anything from a gift, a meal, or an offer to help when something is difficult. It is about showing up, even if its just for the benefit of the other party.
This is another form of self-awareness that the internet has uncovered: the idea that people don’t need to come to you. Many are so busy looking for new things to do and new places to eat that they forget to “come over” for a drink or to buy a new thing. That’s why it is so important to have a presence at parties, sports events, and other social gatherings.
