As a developer, the thought of doing something just for the sake of doing it doesn’t make me want to do it, it makes me want to do more, and I want to make it better.
One of the biggest problems we have in our industry is the perception that developers are only ever the ones who build the next big game. The reality is that we build the next big game all the time. We don’t have to be the only developers who build the next big game. Developers like you and me, who are just as passionate about the games we work on as anyone else, are the ones who will help shape the industry.
It’s really important to point out that the majority of developers in our industry are not “only” developers. They are also designers, programmers, artists, and other professionals. So as developers, we need to take an active role in making sure that the games we make are the best possible games, and that we are making them for the right audience.
The thing is the right audience. That word “wrong” is thrown around a lot. I think a good percentage of developers think that they are making a game for the gamer world, and as a result they only care about making the best possible game for the gamer. It’s important to point out that the majority of gamers are not gamers. They are gamers, but they are not gamers. So this is a real problem.
