No matter how much planning you do, saying “I don’t know” will inevitably slip your mind. Whether it’s about a venue, when to get married, what kind of wedding dress to buy, or where to take a honeymoon, the daunting task of planning your wedding day is an exciting one!
But for some people it can be overwhelming and for others just downright intimidating.

I have written this article to help you plan your most wonderful day. Will teach you the secrets of successful planning, the skills that professional planners rely on every day. I will use my experience in running a wedding planning business as well as my own personal experience to explain how to plan your wedding! Let’s begin with the question: Why do brides need planners?
Why? Because planning is what keeps things running smoothly and efficiently at so many points throughout a wedding day. If you don’t have a wedding planner then there are just too many things that can go wrong: the food won’t taste right, the venues won’t show up on time, or guests won’t be able to get to where they need to be because of traffic.
The basics of planning:
Always plan for contingencies
For example, if you have 25 guests coming from out of town and it takes them 2 hours to get here then you need to keep that in mind. If you don’t, you might end up with a less than perfect wedding.
Get some experience!
Most couples who take the time to plan their weddings never hire a professional planner, and it is usually too late when they realize it! If you want to avoid this mistake then find someone who has run a wedding planning business before so that they can give you some valuable advice.
So, if you really want to achieve the most beautiful and memorable day of your life, let’s get to work!
The Wedding Day:
Here are some basic tips for running a smooth wedding day! Remember, if you don’t plan a wedding with these steps, you could end up with a damaged wedding cake , one guest who can’t find his seat at the table, or a groom who is late for his own wedding.
Try to plan ahead so that your day goes as smoothly as possible.
When planning for contingencies, let your guest know that they can’t bring any of the following items to where you are planning to celebrate:
- flammable dresses, things that can go off after being dropped (incense, etc. )
- glitter, sequins, confetti, etc.
- throwing items (paper/cardboard) or any glass objects (such as vases)
- fireworks or other energetic devices
- anything illegal or dangerous (drugs, alcohol)
Make the day fun:
Don’t be afraid to be creative! Try to set aside some time on the planning day for decorating ideas. Remember that you are going towards a goal and want people to have a great time.
Plan the menu:
Be sure to discuss the menu with your caterer before hiring him/her. There are many things that need to be planned beforehand, including what type of food you’ll be serving. This may sound crazy, but it is actually quite important to visit as many different bakeries as you can before choosing one. (This is especially true if there is a different one in your area.)
Plan a tasting and see if they offer something you like. If the cake tastes great, then you should be able to expect to have a great wedding cake !
Don’t forget about the cake table! You can either choose a beautiful vase or something really creative like a cake stand. Some people even choose not to have a table at all and simply let the guests enjoy dessert on their own time, wherever they want!
If you can, choose your cake and set it up before the rehearsal. This way there won’t be any surprises on the day of your wedding!
If you are having a buffet, then have them make room for it as soon as possible. Also, work with the caterers to plan the layout of the tables so that they are in a sensible order and not too close together.
Plan to send a thank you note the day after the wedding.
Write out a schedule:
Once there is an agenda or schedule, it will be much easier to get things done in time. Remember, people won’t go anywhere until you say so! This means that you need to make sure everything is ready before the ceremony starts.
The dress rehearsal is when all of your plans are turned into reality. During this time, the bride and bride’s maids are trying on their dresses so that everyone can have a good idea of how the wedding day will turn out.
Tie the Knot:
Because so many people find weddings stressful, let everyone relax as much as possible beforehand. Don’t worry about setting a date for this ceremony; it can occur any time after the dress rehearsal.
