I love sales and marketing jobs because they can be my escape from the chaos of everyday life. I’m always looking for a way to bring my creativity and passion to a new job and I never want to do anything else except work with the best.
Sales and marketing jobs can be a good way to earn some extra income (that’s probably why a lot of people hate them) since that’s where you have the opportunity to sell your own stuff. But as I alluded to in my other article, this type of job tends to bring a lot of stress, and the people we deal with often have very strict standards and boundaries.
I’ve been working as a sales and marketing manager, as well as as a vice president of sales at a number of different companies over the last decade, and I’m happy to say that I usually meet my clients’ expectations. As long as the job is what you want it to be, you should be able to find a job that works for you.
Sales and marketing are both sales jobs, and marketing is just a sales job. Sales jobs tend to be a little less strict. Marketing jobs are somewhat more strict, and people who manage them tend to have very strong opinions about what they are selling and who is doing it, so they are a lot more likely to be a bit confrontational. If you are asking for a sales job, make sure you are comfortable with how you are dealing with your clients.
You, the consumer, are the customer. You’re selling your time. Selling your time is selling yourself. Selling yourself is selling something you believe in, and for most people, belief in yourself is a strong motivating factor. If you are selling yourself, you can do so without selling your time.
Another way to think about this is to think about salespeople as if you were selling yourself. Sales people are used to being on a mission. They like to be in control of their work, but they are not used to being on a mission. For example, if you have a sales job, you don’t want to be working on a commission basis. You want to be working from the business.
I want to be working on a commission basis, with a bonus for the sale, but I also want to be working from the business. It’s the same principle.
This is similar to how we use different kinds of tasks in our daily work life. If you have a sales job, you want to be selling. If you have a programmer job, you want to be writing code. If you have a marketing job, you want to be marketing. If you have a salesperson job, you want to be selling.
A salesperson will always want to sell. The only difference between a salesperson and a sales manager is that the salesperson will often want to sell to other salespeople as well. A sales manager will want to sell but have no desire to sell to other people.
And that’s why marketing is such a huge opportunity for you. What you learn in the marketing field will be applied to whatever you do in sales. And every time you write code for someone else, you’ll learn a little bit more about how sales is done.
