The Omicron variant of COVID-19 cause severe Illness.
This was the conclusion of a recent study, published in the Journal Infection and Immunity,
where it was found that nearly half of all people infected with this virus end up in hospital.
This variant is generally regarded as one of the most dangerous variants out there because
it can produce severe symptoms including fever, nausea and vomiting, among other more serious conditions.
The Omicron variant of the coxsackievirus is one of the most common out there,
with around half of all people infected with this variant likely to develop symptoms.
It is believed that when an individual contracts the virus,
they will normally get rid of it without any problems but in some cases it can be a lot more serious.
The illness caused by contracting this virus is known as myocarditis
which is an inflammation of the heart muscle and can be fatal if not treated in time.
The research into this virus was conducted by Dr Marc Fontaine and his team from Imperial College London.

Virus
Dr Fontaine commented on his findings.
He said: “Over the last few years there have been a lot of reports about this particular virus
but this study looked at the proportion of people who end up hospitalized.”
The research was carried out through a course which was taken by 30 healthy volunteers between 2004-2007 and it was found that around 48 percent ended up in hospital.
It was also found that almost 80 percent of the infected people had a combination of other illnesses at the same time.
Combined with other illnesses, the proportion of people who ended up in hospital increased to around 70 percent.
The Omicron variant can be contracted through the droplets that are present in an infected person’s coughs and sneezes,
as well as by touching objects which have been contaminated with the virus or by eating food which has been prepared with contaminated utensils.
Omicron variant is also known to be passed on through sexual contact as it can be found in bodily fluids including saliva and semen.
Omicron variant is seen in various other viruses including the Rotavirus and Adenovirus. The strain which was studied is known as Omicron-3 which is a variant of COVID-19.
It was originally discovered in 1998 by the US Government’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
It has since been found to be quite widespread with around 15,000 people admitted to hospital each year because of it.
In some cases, this infection can cause heart failure and life threatening complications such as pneumonia and kidney failure.
This variant has evolved into having an enhanced ability to infect new hosts or ‘resistance’ to infection.
Infection
It can be found in various animals including the monkey and the pig but it does not appear to infect humans very often.
The reason for this is that people do not often catch this virus as there are less chickens around that have been infected with it.
